Activities & Clubs

The art club is a place for practicing artists to hone in on their skills, develop their techniques, collaborate with other artists, create bonds with the community through the arts, and work collaboratively on group projects that will beautify the school.

The art club will also be responsible for creating the props and set designs for the upcoming Annie Jr Musical!

All supplies will be provided however, student’s are more than welcome to bring in their own materials.

Builder’s Club is a community service organization that works with Kiwanis to instill a sense of leadership, community and citizenship in young people. We meet weekly to work and plan group service projects that occur both on and off campus. There are no academic requirements, but we do strive to represent Western Sky to our community in a positive manner, so respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors are expected. We usually do 1-2 service projects per month either before school, after school, or over a weekend. Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader may join Builder’s Club at anytime!

Girls Who Code Club is a coding club that is open to all students. Students are able to use several different coding languages to participate in fun activities and challenges. Students develop online games, work on projects, create animations, write encryption programs, etc. Many challenges involve competition and earn different prizes. Open to all students.

Students who participate in the debate club will learn about the four different types of competitive debate: Big Questions, Congressional Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and Public Forum Debate. The students will have the opportunity to practice each kind of debate after it has been taught to them, in order to experience and explore with types they like best. Once the students have experienced and identified the kind(s) of debate they would like to focus on. They will begin research, and preparation for formal debates. The debate topics will come from the National Speech and Debate Association topics, or possibly from student generated topics after Mrs. Coleman has reviewed them.

Students who auditioned and were cast will be putting on a fully produced production of Annie JR this Spring. 

Our physical education program is committed to developing the physical fitness levels of their students and the Fitness Club members have the opportunity to take their physical education to the next level.  Students can participate in activities that focus on improving their physical fitness and total health. Students will learn to incorporate sport related activities to enhance their fitness levels, while incorporating sports skills and behaviors.

The F.L.A.G. Program was created to instill pride and respect among students towards the United States and State Flag. Students will be held accountable for the proper Flying, Lowering, And Gathering of the United States and State Flag during the school year. Students who participate in this program will be recognized with a Citizenship Award presented by the sponsors of the F.L.A.G. Program. This will be the model for all school districts to duplicate and emulate. All FLAG members must participate in raising or gathering the flag at least 3 times a week and attend one meeting unless special arrangements have been made for students who receive HS math. Any 6th , 7th, or 8th grade student may join FLAG at anytime.

Students who participate in the club will learn how to strategize, problem solve, and work collaboratively in individual and  group settings while playing E to E10+ rated games on multiple platforms. Students are also able to join Western Sky's Esports team and compete against other middle school gamers.

Glee club is for students who love to sing modern music and create dance routines to go along with our songs.

National Junior Honor Society is for 8th graders who applied and were accepted during the second semester of their 7th grade year are active in school and community service, leadership activities, and serve as role models for their fellow students.

Odyssey of the Mind (OM™) teaches students how to develop and use their natural creativity to become problem-solvers. Imagine being faced with a problem that requires an original solution. It can be frightening. Now imagine not being afraid to solve that problem – that is what OM members learn. This skill and self-confidence will carry over to all areas of their lives. OM brings the classroom to life as students apply what they learn and combine it with their interests and passions to solve our unique open-ended problems. OM also emphasizes teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking, and so much more. This international program is designed to help students at all learning levels grow as individual learners, grow as team members, and to reach their full potential.

Recycle club will plan, prep, and carry out our recycle program by informing the school of recycling protocol, scheduling pick up throughout campus, and maintaining an active role in helping to reduce our waste.  

Student council is an organization on campus that aims to provide a means for student expression, develop attitudes of and opportunities to practice good citizenship, as well as promote harmonious relations throughout the entire school.  They are looking to respectfully support and demonstrate school rules and procedures, which will in turn improve school spirit/morale.  Students are expected to organize and participate in selected community service and social events at school, as well as encourage student participation in formulating school rules for social events, community events, and student activities.

This club will be working on the WSMS Yearbook to be produced in conjunction with this year's students and campus activities.  Students will attend meetings on Thursday, but will need to attend events before, during, and after school in order to record the exciting things happening on campus.  Students will be creative when designing their assigned page, write captions and copy for their page, help edit other club members pages, and will complete their assigned page on time.
