Activities & Clubs

Students who participate in Board/Card Game Club will learn how to strategize, problem solve, and work collaboratively in individual and group settings while playing school apropriate rated games. Students are welcome to bring in their own games and enjoy a relaxing environment to socialize and build teamworking skills as we tackle the many challenges these games present.

Builder’s Club is a community service organization that works with Kiwanis to instill a sense of leadership, community and citizenship in young people. We meet weekly to work and plan group service projects that occur both on and off campus. Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader may join Builders Club at anytime! There are no academic requirements, but we do strive to represent Western Sky to our community in a positive manner, so respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors are expected. We usually do 1-2 service projects per month either before school, after school, or over a weekend.

Coding Club is a coding club where students are able to use several different coding languages to participate in fun activities and challenges. Students develop online games, work on projects, create animations, write encryption programs, etc. Many challenges involve competition and earn different prizes. Formerly known as 'Girls Who Code', this club is open to all students.

Dungeons & Dragons Club: Embark on Epic Adventures!

Are you ready to enter a world of magic, mystery, and adventure? Join the Dungeons & Dragons Club, where your imagination is the limit! Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is a role-playing game that allows you to create your own character, tell stories, and embark on thrilling quests with your friends.

No prior experience is needed—just bring your imagination and sense of adventure! Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or new to the game, there’s a place for you in the Dungeons & Dragons Club. Get ready to roll the dice and start your journey!

Our physical education program is committed to developing the physical fitness levels of their students and the Fitness Club members have the opportunity to take their physical education to the next level. Students can participate in activities that focus on improving their physical fitness and total health. Students will learn to incorporate sport related activities to enhance their fitness levels, while incorporating sports skills and behaviors. Permission Slip Required - Available from Coach Lopez & Office

Students who participate in Gaming Club will learn how to strategize, problem solve, and work collaboratively in individual and group settings while playing E to E10+ rated games on multiple platforms. Students are also able to join Western Sky's Esports team and compete against other middle school gamers.

Middle School Esports League (MSEL) - the goal is to make esports available to students as a legitimate sport. Through organized, supervised, Esports competitions, students will tie their committment to gaming to their success in academics and future careers.

The History Club is a vibrant and engaging community of students who share a passion for understanding and appreciating the past.  We believe that history is not merely a collection of dates and facts, but a living and breathing subject that helps us make sense of the world we live in today.

By joining the History Club, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a variety of activities and events that will enhance your knowledge and appreciation of history.  We will train for the history bee, get help with our history class work and explore the past in depth. 8th graders who applied and were accepted during the second semester of their 7th grade year active in school and community service, leadership activities, and serve as role models for their fellow students.

Are you fascinated by remote-controlled cars, trucks, drones, or planes? Do you enjoy building, racing, and exploring how things work? Join our RC Club and dive into the exciting world of radio-controlled vehicles!

No experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm, and we'll provide the rest. Join us for a fun, hands-on adventure into the world of remote-controlled vehicles!

The goal of this club is to help students meet and exceed their goals if they are walkers, beginning runners, and/or advanced runners.  We will work on goal setting and will work as a group to meet goals and participate in an organized run together. 

Student council is an organization on campus that aims to provide a means for student expression, develop attitudes of and opportunities to practice good citizenship, as well as promote harmonious relations throughout the entire school.  They are looking to respectfully support and demonstrate school rules and procedures, which will in turn improve school spirit/morale.  Students are expected to organize and participate in selected community service and social events at school, as well as encourage student participation in formulating school rules for social events, community events, and student activities.  

Student council members and their families will need ParentSquare & StudentSquare to stay updated with meeting times.

Introducing the Book & Tea Club!

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new Book & Tea Club, where students can come together to share a love of reading and enjoy the cozy ritual of a cup of tea! This club will offer students a space to explore new books, discuss their thoughts, and connect with friends over a shared passion for stories and conversation.

To add a special touch, we’ll also be hosting a monthly Tea Lunch, giving members a chance to share a tea and book chat during lunch. We’re excited to create a welcoming atmosphere, complete with thrifted tea sets and a new tea selection each month!

Get ready to boost your fitness with our Open Weight Room Club! Students are welcome to focus on cardio, flexibility, and strength training in a supportive environment.  It is required for you to wear closed-toed shoes and have a permission slip signed to participate. Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to improve your health and enjoy some time with friends! We can't wait to see you there!

Are you passionate about storytelling, poetry, or creative writing? Join Writing Club! This is a space for young writers to explore their creativity, share their work, and learn from each other. Whether you love writing short stories, poems, plays, or even graphic novels, this club welcomes all kinds of writers. We will meet weekly to discuss different writing techniques, participate in fun writing prompts and activities, and provide supportive feedback on each other's work. No experience is necessary—just bring your imagination and enthusiasm! Come be part of a community that loves to write as much as you do.

This club will be working on the WSMS Yearbook to be produced in conjunction with this year's students and campus activities.  Students will attend meetings on Thursday, but will need to attend events before, during, and after school in order to record the exciting things happening on campus.  Students will be creative when designing their assigned page, write captions and copy for their page, help edit other club members pages, and will complete their assigned page on time.
